Massage from Dr. Tomohisa Tanaka, Principal Investigator of our lab.

Tanaka Laboratory started from 2017. Our main research field is manufacturing and machining. The research topics cover many filed from the hardware such as machine tool, mechanic elements, to software such as CAD/CAM, production planning, scheduling. We also focus on developing new manufacturing technology, such as laser machining, high energy machining, and additive manufacturing. Among all of the above topics, the keywords of our laboratory are: application of high frequency vibration, micro machining using laser irradiation, High efficiency production system with integration of information technology.

Like many inter-disciplinary areas such as, robotics, medical engineering and bio-science, manufacturing and machining is also an integrated research field. We could like to encourage our students to actively adopt the new findings and knowledge from other fields. Therefore, besides doing experiments in the laboratory, we provide various opportunities for our students to attend academic conferences, technical trainings, and factory tours. We also provide chances for our students to communicate with the peoples from the industry and from other academies.

We would like to train the students enrolled in our laboratory to gain the ability to locate and solve the problems independently through the research project, and we hope our alumnus are able to play an important role in any filed after graduation.

Daily life of our lab.

Journal club

In order to learn about the current research trends, and to gain the English communication skill, Journal club (seminar of literature introduction) will be held once a week. In the seminar, the presenter will pick up one of the English research paper which is related with his own research project, and make presentation using power point slides to the staff and lab members. Discussions will be followed after the presentation to deepen the understanding about the contents.

Meeting with lab. staff

Meeting with the lab staffs will be held once a week to report the research progress and discuss about the future research plan. We provide a good environment for the staffs and the students to communicate with each other and to explore the uncharted research areas together. Consulting about research or campus life will be available any time during the office hour.

Conference

Conference will be held once a month in the weekend together with other labs from other universities. All the lab members are required to make a presentation about his research progress using power point slides. The presentation should not be the list up of the research results, but be a whole “story” which includes the introduction, research background, research objective, research result and discussions. The student will learn how to make technical report, how to make a presentation, and how to keep a good manner before the audience.
